AUSTIN, Texas – August 1, 2007 -- Internet application development firm Live Oak 360 (www.liveoak360.com) has signed on to upgrade and maintain the BeGreenNow.com web site for Green Mountain Energy, an Austin-based provider of cleaner energy and carbon-offset solutions.
According to Green Mountain Energy, carbon offset is the process of compensating for carbon dioxide emissions with eco-friendly measures such as tree planting programs, the earning and expenditure of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), and other sustainability solutions. Businesses who reduce their carbon emissions by a certain percentage can qualify for the EPA’s Green Power Partnership program, which encourages and assists them in switching from fossil fuels to cleaner electricity from water, wind, or solar power. A company that reduces its carbon emissions by 100% has achieved a state of “carbon neutrality.”
Live Oak 360 will help Green Mountain Energy adapt its online business application to offer carbon offset solutions to its customers while leveraging the site to educate the public on the value of carbon offset programs for the environment.
